Meet Jackie

Workforce Challenge

Jackie had only one job his entire life as a Saw Machine Operator with a building materials supplier. At the age of 59, with no High School Diploma, he learned quickly it was unlikely to become employed without his GED. After many attempts to find new employment he decided to proceed with his education.

Workforce Solution

Jackie registered with WIA in August 2009, and began working with WIA and Greenville Literacy to obtain his GED. He demonstrated his commitment by being consistent with his attendance and showed determination as he began to make progress.

Jackie completed the program and received his GED in June 2011. He also participated in soft skills training through the workforce center.

As a participant of WIA’s Preferred Employer Training Program (PETP), Jackie participated in Mock Interviews, Interviewing with Confidence, Resume Creation, and WorkKeys®, in which he scored at a Silver level.

Outcomes & Benefits

After an interview with Chase Staffing, Jackie became employed on September 22, 2011 with a local recycling company. The recycling business is growing and offers new opportunities and hope of advancement in the future. Chase Staffing was impressed with his resume and his interviewing skills, proving that Jackie's hard work in this are paid off for him. Greenville County Workforce Development commends Jackie for his efforts. Great Job!
