Workforce Challenge

Dave is a 60-year-old mature worker nearing retirement. He was earning a six figure salary when he was laid off last year, finding himself in the position of starting over. Reinventing himself in the worst economic downtown since the Great Depression was daunting. Not knowing where to turn, Dave visited his local Sacramento Works Career Center for help.

Workforce Solution

Taking the advice of his Sacramento Works Career Coach, Dave enrolled in a class providing through Sacramento State College of Continuing Education in Sustainable Facilities Management. The class fees were paid through Recovery Act funding and he was still able to collect his unemployment benefits as part of the California Training Benefits Program. The class helped Dave upgrade his skills and experience ultimately making him more employable.

Outcomes & Benefits

Dave states, "The knowledge I have acquired through the class has been invaluable and I have been exposed to many employment opportunities that I never would have been aware of, as a result of this program." Dave is currently interviewing and is actively searching for employment in the green industry.
