Workforce Challenge

Evan joined the youth program in the summer of 2009. His parents had recently divorced and the family was struggling financially. Evan was guarded and hesitant about working.

Workforce Solution

Through the youth program, Evan was placed at two different worksites, allowing him to exploring different careers and develop new work skills. Through the work readiness classes, Evan built friendships and began to open up and feel comfortable sharing some of his experiences.

Outcomes & Benefits

Evan graduated from high school in 2011 and began a new internship at Jaci’s Cookies. He struggled with issues related to transportation and was able to create backup plans for getting to and from work. Evan was offered a part-time position with Jaci’s Cookies upon completion of his internship, which worked well with his schedule as a full-time student at MCC.
