Workforce Challenge

Kendra was a sweet, shy girl who struggled with academics and had never been employed before. She was eligible for the youth program because she had a learning disability.

Workforce Solution

In the youth program, Kendra first worked at a gym and interacted with children there. Then, she was placed at Sprouts About, a drop-in childcare center. Kendra loved the work and did very well. The consistent feedback about her ability to bond with the children and parents gave Kendra a huge boost to her confidence.

Outcomes & Benefits

After graduating from high school and completing her worksite hours, Kendra was hired by Sprouts About as a Teacher’s Aide. In fall 2011, she began attending McHenry County College to work on her general education classes, with a long term goal of completing the Childcare program at MCC.
