Meet Rebecca

Workforce Challenge

Rebecca relocated to southwest Florida as a single mother with limited skills, but she wanted to create a better life for herself. She needed to find a job quickly in order to provide for her son. When Rebecca applied for assistance through the Department of Children and Families, she was referred for services to Southwest Florida Works in Naples.

Workforce Solution

Rebecca chose to participate in the Welfare Transition Program which provided her with child care, work experience and training through Edison State College. Rebecca successfully completed her coursework and became certified as a Phlebotomy Technican.

Outcomes & Benefits

Rebecca is now employed by Naples Community Hospital and has been promoted to Lead Technician. She is happy with her new life and plans to attend Edison's Radiology Program to further her career. Rebecca is grateful for the program and was recently honored as an Achievement Award winner by the Southwest Florida Workforce Development Board during its annual Board meeting. Florida’s Governor Rick Scott attended and acknowledged Rebecca for her hard work. Congratulations, Rebecca!
