Workforce Challenge

Riverton Custom Cabinetry is an established company that designs, manufactures, sells and distributes fine custom cabinetry to residential and commercial customers in New Lenox. To minimize waste and manage labor more efficiently, as well as to avoid outsourcing several applications, Riverton needed to add several machines to its production. However, the only way the company could grow in its current location was to streamline its current systems, clear up floor space, create extremely efficient work areas, and give its employees the tools and knowledge to do their job to the best of their abilities.

Workforce Solution

Through the Workforce Investment Board of Will County, Riverton accessed an Incumbent Worker grant to pay for specialized training that allowed the company to maximize its return on investment from the equipment by structuring the processes around the equipment efficiently. Experts in Lean Manufacturing trained six Production Managers in Lean Manufacturing techniques.

The employees received classroom and individual hands-on training on the basic system of Lean Manufacturing as well as instructional training for key management people on ways to prioritize and assess the results of their work.

Outcomes & Benefits

“This training allowed us to not only assess the challenges we knew existed, but helped us to realize aspects of our current systems that could be improved that we had not anticipated prior to the training,” said Scott Koca, Training Manager.
