Meet Mark

Workforce Challenge

After being laid off from a electronic parts manufacturer, Mark came into the Illinois workNet Center of Northern Cook County and was eligible for the Trade Grant program. He had not been able to find employment for about 10 months at the time. With assistance from his career advisor, Mark decided that he would benefit from additional training.

Workforce Solution

Mark researched various career options and decided that the Automotive Technology program at Universal Technical Institute would allow him to obtain marketable skills in a growing industry. Automotive Technology is a growing industry with plenty of job opportunities for entry level individuals.

Outcomes & Benefits

In January of 2011, Mark successfully completed Automotive Technology program at UTI. Mark had began working part-time at a Cadillac dealership while still attending the training program and earning his credential. After completion, his hours were increased to full-time and he began working as a Service Support Technician. Mark is very thankful for the opportunity he had to obtain training, learn a new trade, and re-enter job market after his position was outsourced overseas.
