Meet Kristen

Workforce Challenge

After working for 20 years in the local government and the park district arenas, Kristen found herself unemployed. As an advocate of life-long learning, she had recently earned her Master’s Degree in Human Resources. Kristen became a professional job seeker and regularly participated in networking events, used social media, and posted on job boards. She found that most employers were looking for candidates with Professional of Human Resources (PHR) Certification. Kristen became increasingly frustrated with her job search. She kept hearing that she was an efficient, organized, job searcher, but no offers were forthcoming. She turned to the Illinois workNet Center of Northern Cook County for assistance and support.

Workforce Solution

At the Center, Kristen qualified to receive training assistance so that she could obtain her PHR certification. She also signed up to participate in the Volunteer Network at the Illinois workNet Center.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through the Volunteer Network, Kristen used her presentation skills and built professional relationships with other job seekers. A volunteer job helped her secure temporary employment. Then, while working in her temporary assignment, the offers began to roll in. Kristen was offered numerous full-time employment opportunities, and she recently accepted a full-time Human Resources Manager position at a local blood bank. Congratulations, Kristen!
