Meet Amanda

Workforce Challenge

Amanda was a youth on government assistance. After struggling with her anxiety about finding a job, Amanda went to the Metro South/West Career Centers for help. She told her youth counselor, Akeem, that she wanted to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). He helped her to find three CNA jobs, but she was unable to accept any of the jobs due to her high anxiety about whether she could succeed in them.

Workforce Solution

With assistance from Akeem, Amanda decided on a Plan B - to become a housekeeper in a nursing home as the first step on the career pathway to becoming a CNA. Amanda enjoys cleaning and working independently. By pursuing a job as a housekeeper in a health facility she could use these skills and then transition to a CNA position when she was ready. Akeem helped Amanda draft a resume and a cover letter. He then helped her to set up an interview at Campion Health Center, in Weston, MA.

Outcomes & Benefits

Campion hired Amanda as a housekeeper. She loves her new job and feels proud that she is no longer on public assistance. She is grateful to Akeem and the Metro South/West Career Centers for helping to build her confidence and find a job where she could succeed.
