Meet Jose

Workforce Challenge

Jose, a 21-year old Hispanic male, was from a single family home that received food stamps and cash assistance. Jose sought assistance with his job search from the Metro South/West Career Centers (Norwood, Newton, Marlborough). Although he really wanted to work, he was very confused about the career he wished to pursue and needed help to access education and training.

Workforce Solution

Jose worked with one of the career center's Youth Case Managers to identify his strengths and career interests. He wanted to enter the trade field and focus on "green" jobs. The career center helped Jose enter a weatherization training program for insulation, and upon completion, Jose obtained a RRP Lead Renovator certificate, an OSHA 10 certificate, and a weatherization installer certificate.

Outcomes & Benefits

After earning his certifications, Jose was hired very quickly. In his new job, he earns a good salary ($14/hour) and benefits. He has now been able to save enough money to move out of his family's home and to live an independent life. Jose is extremely grateful for the opportunity that the career center provided him, and he is proud of himself for successfully moving forward in his life.
