Meet Corey

Workforce Challenge

Thousands of dislocated workers take their first step to a new career at the One-Stop Employment Resource Centers funded by the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board. Two years ago, former veteran Corey Wells walked into the Employment Resource Center at Rancho Cucamonga determined to change his life.

“I was getting too old to keep working in construction and I needed help,” Wells explained.

Workforce Solution

At the Employment Resource Center, Wells underwent skills assessments and received career counseling and training in basic computer skills and job search skills to become prepared for the next chapter of his life. Wells enrolled in the drug and alcohol studies program at San Bernardino Valley Community College and regularly reported to his career mentor that he had fully dedicated himself to making the most of his opportunity.

Outcomes & Benefits

Wells successfully completed the program with honors and recently earned his state certification as a drug and alcohol counselor. He now works as an advocate with Inland Valley Recovery Services.

“I used to live under a bridge and I’m a recovering addict myself with 15 years of sobriety,” Wells recounted. “The San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board helped me and now I’m helping men and women who are on their road to recovery. I’m proof that this program works.”
