Workforce Challenge

Oksana had just relocated to the U.S. She had some experience in accounting, and she wanted to continue in field, but felt she needed to update her skills in order to be prepared for a new job market. She came to the SELACO WIB for assistance with finding an internship where she could learn hands on skills.

Workforce Solution

The SELACO WIB team helped Oksana build her résumé and assisted with funding for certification courses in computer skills and accounting software. She used the center's resources to gain access to local jobs listings. Oksana received an Accounting & Financial Analysis diploma from SCIT, exiting with a 4.0 GPA and updated skills that would help her land a job. While in her classes, she found a part-time internship position and excelled in her accounting duties helping a fiscal department to reduce month-end closing time.

Outcomes & Benefits

Oksana's internship experience and new skills gave her confidence and helped her to find a full-time job within a month. She received an offer from an IT company where she is now continuing her accounting career.

"[The SELACO WIB] Career Center is well known for its devoted professional team, from the caring Program Analyst, Renee Fakhfouri, and the talented Workshop Presenter, Tammy Ferranti-Lansdown, to the down-to-earth WIB Executive Director, Ron Crossley," shared Oksana. "Everyone puts their heart and soul into the effort needed to make a huge difference for the job seeker."
