Meet Jeffery

Workforce Challenge

In 2005, Jeffery left his job at a pharmaceutical packaging corporation after eight years in order to become a home healthcare provider for his mother. He wanted to help her stay in her own home as long as possible. He provided care for her for nearly four years, working as what he described as “essentially a CNA without the certification.” When his mother passed away in 2009, he needed to find a new job to support himself, but did not know where to begin his job search.

Workforce Solution

Jeffery turned to his local WorkSmart Access Point in Stoughton for help developing his résumé and finding a job. Access Points are satellite employment information centers that provide job seekers with local job search information, services, and referrals to One Stop Career Centers (Job Centers) and other service providers. Jeffery spent several months working closely with Access Point volunteers to translate his work experience into a professional résumé and begin applying for job openings.

Outcomes & Benefits

After four months of diligent searching, Jeffery finally found a position as a home caregiver working through Goodwill Industries. He was able to get this position thanks to a recommendation from one of the Stoughton Access Point volunteers as well as the extensive caregiver experience he gained from helping his mother. He loves working in his new position and is grateful for the help from the Access Point.
