Meet Paula

Workforce Challenge

Paula found herself living in a homeless shelter in Dodge County after a two-year struggle with unemployment. With few employment connections and no housing solution in sight, she wasn’t sure if she’d ever get back on her feet.

Workforce Solution

While staying at the shelter, Paula was connected with several community and regional agencies that could help her. One of these agencies, the Central Wisconsin Community Action Council, referred Paula to the Workforce Investment Act program and suggested she contact a local WIA representative for employment help. Shortly after completing orientation into the WIA program, Paula was connected both with job opportunities and housing resources right in her community.

Outcomes & Benefits

Working with the WIA program, Paula was hired for a temporary position as an Administrative Clerk at the WorkSmart Access Point in Juneau. Her duties include helping customers with computer access and job searching. This position is helping Paula build her résumé while searching for a more permanent position.

“I really appreciate how helpful everyone was and how they worked to make me feel comfortable,” Paula said. “It was great how they worked to help me get back on my feet.”
