Workforce Challenge

Nancy had been employed for more than thirty years as a Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Manager when her position was eliminated. She joined the ranks of the unemployed and came to the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments (NWPCOG) job center for assistance.

Workforce Solution

At the Job Center, the staff helped Nancy decide to pursue retraining in the medical field, as demand for this occupation was strong in her region. In March, 2010, Nancy enrolled in the Nursing Assistant Certification program offered by Caring Hand Home Health. WIA funding helped pay for her tuition.

Outcomes & Benefits

After completing training, Nancy passed her CNA State Examination successfully, but she didn't stop there. In November 2010, Nancy graduated from the GED program offered through Wake Forest University. With her high school diploma and CNA certification, Nancy is now ready to get back to work. NWPCOG wishes her continued success in her future endeavors.
