Workforce Challenge

George is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who was working in the road maintenance department of a large construction contractor. Because of the nature of the work, George worked long hours during the summer and was usually laid off during the winter months. Although he liked his job, the long summer days and the frequent winter layoffs made it very hard on George and his family. He wanted to find year-round work with more stability.

Workforce Solution

George came to the Pikes Peak Workforce Center for assistance. After reviewing his background and skillset, the Center arranged for George to attend the Colorado Asphalt Contractors Association's Field Lab Technician School in Denver. To make this opportunity work for George, the Center paid for his training and provided funds so George could travel to Denver for classes.

Outcomes & Benefits

After completing the field lab coursework, George transferred to a new job in his company's lab facility, out of the weather. He also been moved from an hourly to a salaried position, creating more income stability, achieving his goal of moving from seasonal to full-time year round work. Congratulations, George!
