Meet Robert

Workforce Challenge

After graduating from high school, Robert went straight into the construction industry. While working for different companies, he was able to work his way up to superintendent for construction jobs. Due to the downfall in the economy, construction work dried up and Robert found himself unemployed. After frequenting the unemployment office, he realized that he needed to change careers in order to find employment.

Workforce Solution

Robert eventually found his way to the Illinois workNet Center via IDES. Robert attended a WIA orientation and once he was determined eligible he was able to take advantage of numerous services through the WIA program. Through the Harper Capstone Experience, he took an assessment that then matched him up to various workshops designed to help him find and maintain employment based on his individual needs. Robert was also able to take advantage of computer training and job search/ networking workshops. Since Robert was looking to change careers he also applied for vocational training services available through the Illinois workNet Center. He was approved to attend Harper College’s truck driving program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Robert has since completed the truck driving program and has successfully found employment with a trucking company that is based out of Marshfield, WI and Gary, IN. Once he completes their 6 week employer training program, he will have his own truck and be working out of his home and on the road.
