Workforce Challenge

Jodi wasn’t sure where her life was going after being laid off from a full-time position at a funeral home. She had been expecting to stay there for years to come. Unsure of her skills and qualifications in a tough job market, she turned to the South Central Wisconsin Job Center System for assistance.

Workforce Solution

Because of the layoff, Jodi qualified for the WIA dislocated worker program and took advantage of the training opportunities available to her. In December 2009, she graduated from the Information Technology Career Academy (a short-term training track for dislocated workers) offered by Madison College. With her new credentials, she landed a position at the Sauk County Development Center.

Executive Director of the Sauk County Development Center Karna Hanna said that when it came to the hiring decision, Jodi had a clear advantage over the rest of the applicant pool because her IT skill set was the most complete and the most up-to-date.

Outcomes & Benefits

Jodi now has steady and secure employment thanks to the new career skills she has gained through this program. “At the age of 38, I never thought I would go back to school,” Jodi said. “I can’t say enough about the program. It changed my life for the better, just when I didn’t know what I was going to do.”
