Meet Lineal

Workforce Challenge

Lineal was having a hard time trying to find a job to support himself and his daughter. He applied to numerous places and worked with several temp agencies, but kept being turned down for positions without knowing exactly why. Frustrated with the job market, he turned to the Dane County Job Center where he was connected with WIA services as well as the Transitional Jobs Program, which would place him in a job for up to six months.

Workforce Solution

Through the Transitional Jobs program, Lineal is now working as a dishwasher at the Goodman Community Center in Madison. The Transitional Jobs placement is helping him learn to be a patient and diligent worker, as well as offering him a steady wage to cover rent and bills. He has also gone through a GED boot camp offered through the WIA program for Older Youth, and is currently only a few credits shy of completing his GED, which he hopes to do in the coming months.

Outcomes & Benefits

After his Transitional Jobs position finishes, Lineal is looking for a stable, permanent job as a cook in the restaurant industry, and hopes to open his own restaurant one day. The Transitional Jobs program and WIA has helped him get back on his feet so he can begin to plan for the future. “This program is great for those who want to work and are having a hard time,” Lineal said. “I’d refer it to others who are willing to go in with a good attitude and get the job done.”
