Workforce Challenge

Melissa was self-employed as the owner of a cleaning service, but a failing economy impacted her business and reduced her income. She felt the need for something more stable and secure. Melissa decided to go back to school and pursue a nursing degree, but she needed financial assistance in order to do so. Melissa didn't know where to turn and didn't know if it would even be possible for her to go back to school

Workforce Solution

A friend of Melissa's told her about the Arkansas Workforce Center and the WIA program. Melissa came into the Malvern Arkansas Workforce Center to apply for assistance. She was able to become approved for WIA adult assistance through West Central Arkansas Career Development Center Systems, Inc. who is the WIA agent for the area. With the WIA assistance Melissa was able to go back to college, attending Ouachita Technical College's LPN program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Melissa graduated from Ouachita Technical College in Malvern, Arkansas in May of 2010. She found a job immediately, working as an LPN with Care IV Home Health in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Melissa is very pleased and content with her position and credits the WIA assistance for her success.
