Workforce Challenge

Peter Givens was placed by the California Department of Rehabilitation in several different educational programs before he discovered the right fit. He found his calling when he became a Peer Coach for a computer literacy training program called Generations Online.

Workforce Solution

Mr. Givens was selected for the Generations Online program through Contra Costa County's EASTBAY Works Senior Employment Program. By matching Mr. Givens to the program, the staff helped him identify and strengthen his passion for helping fellow seniors overcome their fear of technology.

In his role, Mr. Givens empowers other seniors to learn technological skills like sending email and browsing the Internet. Using his collaborative personality and fun sense of humor, he has flourished in Generations Online.

Outcomes & Benefits

Mr. Givens has developed a strong sense of purpose and leadership through his role as a Peer Coach in the Generations Online program. By becoming a community leader, Mr. Givens is able to have a productive role in society that only employment can provide.
