Workforce Success Story Submitted By:
Arkansas Workforce Center - Lewisville

Meet Brandi

Workforce Challenge

Brandi came to the WIA program in December, 2008 because she needed assistance paying her college tuition as well as with her transportation to and from school. She was a working single mother driving from Lewisville to SAU-Magnolia for a Social Work degree. Brandi had an early graduation plan. She wanted to take one extra class per semester and take classes every summer term so she could graduate early and get a better paying job.

Workforce Solution

Brandi was approved for funding through the WIA Adult program and received monies to help pay her tuition, as well as funds to assist with gas purchases. Brandi seemed dedicated to her education as she registered for more than 18 hours of coursework in both the fall and the spring semesters.

Outcomes & Benefits

Brandi graduated from SAU in May 2009 with a degree in Social Work and a 3.5 GPA. She was also able to find a job right after graduation. Brandi is the new Youth Activity Planner at the Day Springs Behavioral Health Center in Magnolia, Arkansas.
