Meet Patrick

Workforce Challenge

Although Patrick held a Bachelor's degree in Social Science, he had a limited work history that included mostly part-time jobs cashiering at fast food restaurants. These jobs had ended because of employee relations issues that had resulted in his being terminated. Ideally, he wanted to find work where he'd be able to use his degree, so he came to the Columbia One Stop for assistance in January, 2011.

Workforce Solution

After his past experiences, Patrick’s approach to employment and his overall outlook and motivation to find better employment was low. Patrick's Workforce Consultant worked with him to update his resume, coached him on how to present himself, how to handle difficult situations in the workplace and how to interview well, all practical skills that Patrick needed to re-start his job search.

Outcomes & Benefits

Patrick found a job with Home Depot as a part-time cashier working 30 hours per week. He is currently in a probationary period and will be eligible for increased hours once that is completed satisfactorily. In addition, because he already has a college degree, there is room for advancement within the company down the road. Good luck, Patrick!
