Meet Leslie

Workforce Challenge

When Leslie visited the Columbia OneStop in December 2010, he was a homeless veteran with a current criminal record. He was enrolled into WIA under partnership with the Fast Forward Program, which provides access to technology for underserved populations.

Workforce Solution

After being enrolled into the program, his Workforce Consultant assisted Leslie with preparing a resume, building a list of references, developing a cover letter, and preparing a portfolio of recommendations, certifications, and past accomplishments. Leslie received coaching to hone his interview skills, as well as career guidance that helped him target the industries or fields in which he was interested.

Outcomes & Benefits

Leslie became employed in February, 2011 as a Social Worker. He had a starting salary over $35,000 and use of a company car. Leslie will be a traveling Social Worker, recruiting veterans (both homeless and non-homeless) to come to Columbia to join the VA Hospital’s programs. Congratulations, Leslie!
