Vitro America

Workforce Challenge

In mid-2009, Vitro America decided to expand its business by launching a new architectural product - one that they had never manufactured before. Vitro needed to train workers for new high-tech positions that would be a part of the manufacturing process. Because the company was experiencing a significant downturn in its other product sales, it did not have financial resources to support the training.

Workforce Solution

Through the Mississippi Partnership LWIA, Vitro America was approved for On the Job Training contracts to assist with training costs. The OJT program reimburses employers for a portion of an employee's wages during a specified training period. "The OJT Program provided us an opportunity to accomplish our goals. Also, we were able to provide several unemployed individuals immediate jobs because of the financial resources supplied through this program," said George Sadgebury, the Human Resources Manager at Vitro.

Outcomes & Benefits

Today, thanks in large part to the success of the OJT Partnership program, Vitro America's architectural business is thriving. "Not only were there benefits to us at the start-up, but as our architectural business has grown, we have been able to offer employment to an additional twenty unemployed individuals from around the Grenada community," said Sadgebury. The company is proud to be able to offer job opportunities in the community and is grateful to OJT funding that made it possible.
