Meet Veronica

Workforce Challenge

Veronica Caradine was a young aspiring widow with a twelve year old daughter when she visited the Grenada WIN Job Center. Veronica was currently employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse, but wanted to advance her career in the nursing field and become an RN. She had been accepted into an Associates Degree program for nursing, but did not have the finances to pay the tuition. Veronica had applied for a PELL Grant but was not sure if she would receive it. Since time was quickly approaching for the training to begin, Veronica became very worried because she did not have the money to pay for it.

Workforce Solution

Veronica remembered that in the past the WIN Job Center had a program that financially assisted students enrolled in training. She visited the Grenada WIN Job Center to inquire about this financial assistance. After receiving the information from the WIN Job Center, Veronica applied for and was awarded a WIA-funded Individual Training Account (ITA).

Veronica used her ITA to enroll in the associates degree program for nursing. She successfully completed training on Dec. 10, 2010. Veronica proudly received her Mississippi Board of Nursing license on Jan. 27, 2011.

Outcomes & Benefits

Veronica is currently employed with Central Mississippi Inc. where she provides services to preschoolers with disabilities and behavioral problems.

Veronica shared that she is so thankful to the WIN Job Center, and said that without the WIA assistance, she would not have been able to achieve her longtime goal to become a Registered Nurse. Veronica feels blessed that she can now offer her daughter a better future.
