Meet Penny

Workforce Challenge

Penny came to the Ocean County One-Stop after deciding to separate from her husband as a result of domestic violence issues. This was a difficult decision for her since she had three children, but she was determined to make it on her own.

Workforce Solution

Penny began receiving public assistance. She was also eligible to receive WIA funds for training into a career that would help her achieve self-sufficiency. Penny enrolled in a licensed practical nursing program at the Ocean County Vocational Technical School.

Outcomes & Benefits

Penny immediately excelled in the program and was recognized as a student of the month during her clinical training. She also received a Presidential academic achievement award. After graduation, Penny was employed part-time and ultimately full-time at a nursing and rehabilitation center where she has been employed for the last three years. As a result of her connection to the Ocean County One-Stop Career Center, Penny is a certified LPN and able to support her family as a single parent.
