Meet Michael

Workforce Challenge

Michael dropped out of high school. Although he displayed very high academic potential, did not believe in his abilities, had low self-esteem, and had limited social skills. He was referred to the WIA Youth program through Northeast Georgia Regional Commission.

Workforce Solution

At NEGRC, Michael was enrolled in a GED program and begin the necessary classes. By the time he received his GED, his self esteem had grown. He applied at Gwinnett Technical College and enrolled as a freshman.

Outcomes & Benefits

When asked what he liked most about the WIA program, Michael said that it was a place where he was not judged and where he could open up to other people and start to trust. He went on to say that he could not trust anyone when he came to the program, but now he is learning to gauge his trust by people’s actions.

Michael is continuing his studies at Gwinnett Technical College and is working with WIA to locate employment to build his work experience.
