Meet Bryson

Workforce Challenge

When Bryson came to the GED program at the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission, he was very shy and reserved, keeping to himself and making minimal conversation. Over the course of the program, Bryson begin to open up and make connections with his classmates. By the end of the program, Bryson was always one of the first students to raise his hands first to answer a question. Bryson wanted to attend college and begin working, but he didn’t know where to start.

Workforce Solution

After he'd completed the workforce readiness course, the focus turned to building Bryson’s self esteem so that he could begin his job search. Bryson completed mock interview training and applied to Kroger. After Bryson applied to Kroger for employment he was encouraged to apply to Athens Technical College and Gainesville State College for school. With the help of the WIA program, Bryson was approved for six months of services to help him reach his goals.

Outcomes & Benefits

Today, Bryson, a GED graduate, has been employed at Kroger as a bagger for three months and is awaiting admission decision letters from Gainesville State College. He often comes by the workforce office to tell them how happy he is in his job and how excited he is about going to college.
