Workforce Challenge

In these hard economic times many workers are having to re-enter the job market after decades of job security with one company. This is what Connie Ho experienced first-hand when she was laid off from a prominent technology company after working there for over twenty years. Connie came to NOVA and the CONNECT! Job Seeker Center for help to become reacquainted with the whole process of looking for a job in the tough current market.

Workforce Solution

Once at NOVA, Connie took advantage of many of the available job search workshops and computer classes to build her skills. “The staff was wonderful!” she says, and she has even been able to help others with the skills she learned at NOVA. Connie also met with career advisors to discuss her job search progress and to build a strong network. Connie says she was “amazed at how efficient they were,” and was so impressed that she wrote to the governor about the NOVA program.

Outcomes & Benefits

Through her experience with NOVA, Connie built personal confidence in herself and her abilities, and became employed as an administrative assistant at El Camino Hospital. Connie's success is an inspiring example to the large number of mature workers returning to the current job market. Her experience shows that even in a difficult job market, with the right job skills resources and hard work and dedication, workers can overcome the challenges of age bias that exist.
